On success

Just finished Seth Godin’s “Tribes.”  Probably my favorite quote from it (and I wrote it down in my Quote Book) was this:

“The obligation: don’t settle.  To have all these advantages, all this momentum, all these opportunities and then settle for mediocrity and defend the status quo and worry about corporate politics — what a waste.”

I was extremely lucky with the circumstances I was born into.  If I don’t build something great, I won’t feel sorry for myself.  I’ll just be unbelievably embarrassed, knowing I didn’t capitalize on my situation.  I won’t have any excuse.

Settling for mediocrity (i.e. the status quo) is wildly unappealing to me, and I hope it always will be.
